Looking back at the year 2019 there were many highs and lows. Here is a recap of events by month for East High School. January - There were big changes in the cafeteria. The assembly line started and the food improved! There were more food choices, such as subs and chicken. February - East High School hosts a Black History Month and hip hop assembly to celebrate African American history. March - Chef Jeff leads the Soul Food Cook-off. Mrs. Conroy wins it all with her fantastic meatballs! April - East observed the Day of Silence to support LBGTQ+ people. May - The University of Rochester extended their agreement with East High School. June - East graduation rate hits 69%, up 3 times as much as before the U of R took over. July - Summer was in full swing and students enjoyed a much deserved break. Juniors became SENIORS! August - Rochester City School District celebrates their graduation rate, hitting a 10 year high. September - Students are welcomed back to school. It was a much calmer and organized start to the year. The Pep Rally kicked off the sports season. October - The Z grade hits the grade books. Students are now given a Z for a zero grade if their grade is lower than 50. November - Students take to the street to protest teacher cuts in the District. The Board of Education votes to make mid-year cuts to 95 teachers in the district December - Last but not least, the sudden death of rap artist Juice WRLD passes away at the age of 21. Many students were struck by this because his music was very influential to some. Some can even say it helped them through a tough time during their lives. Lost but never forgotten.
