Holiday season is quickly approaching, so you might be wondering what to get that person in your life who loves to play video games. There are thousands upon thousands of video games to get someone and trying buy the right one can be pretty intimidating Many great games came out this year that have been some of the best in video game history according to many critics. There were many critically acclaimed games released that pretty much any gamer would want to get their hands on. Dennis Olmedo, gamer and East student, states, “Everybody has a game that they want, whether it’s a fighting game, story-driven, or whatever: there’s definitely something out there for everyone.” This year we have gotten some awesome games like: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Spider-Man which was released recently and it’s a great game. I would say if you are unsure what game to get that person just get them a $50 gift card for their preferred platform and let them buy the game and use the money however they want. So some definite games to get would be Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Forza Horizon 4, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Soul Calibur VI, and God of War are some examples. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey and some others from last year are good options too. Make sure they don’t already have these already, and at the end of the day if you are completely unsure, accessories like a headset or controller or even a gift card would do just fine.

Many people love the holiday season: from making gingerbread houses, attending family festivities on Thanksgiving Day, to opening gifts on Christmas morning. As the holiday season gets closer and more exciting, many people are not aware of how receiving and the giving of gifts affect your health. Receiving and giving gifts affects many people in different ways; it can define relationships, and also strengthen bonds with family and friends. While the child in you probably enjoys getting a present wrapped in a big bow, the adult in you realizes that you really can get a lot out of giving to someone else. Gift giving produces an array of emotions and reactions, but there is something bigger happening. Your brain, mind, body, and spirit are reacting to gift giving in ways you don’t even realize. When you give a gift you probably feel thrilled and proud of yourself that you are making someone else feel appreciated and loved. Once you give the gift, the receiver will most certainly thank you. Not only does gift giving give satisfaction to both ends, but it also provides a feeling of comfort knowing that the person is cared about deeply. This is truly a win/win situation on both sides. It’s important to remember that giving doesn’t just mean buying tons of expensive gifts for friends and family during the holidays or birthdays. Even the smallest act of kindness can show that you are genuinely a good and caring person. Actions such as holding the door for a stranger, shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk, or even buying a cup of coffee for the person behind you in line are small things you can do to help others. Always remember to give as much as you can give possibly give, during the holiday season and all year round. By Rishad Ragland
Are you amongst the group of middle aged woman who say you're going to get rid of those love handles every New Year? Well you're not the only one. Around 56% of people either forget their goal or don't keep track of it. A New Year's Resolution is a tradition in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life. Teenagers make resolutions too. East High baseball star athlete Tyrone Roundtree states, “I want to physically and mentally prepare myself for this upcoming baseball season and college career.” He plan to achieve these goals by vowing “to hit the gym and the books as often as possible, schedule to meet with my counselor once a week to make sure I am still on track to be successful and college ready.” College transition and physical health appear to be common goals among young East High students. Fellow East High scholar Pipper Holmes states, “I plan to improve my health, my education, my charisma, and meet my college application deadlines.” To make sure he stays focused and doesn't forgot his goal, Pipper also added, “I will seek help from my counselor Dr. Diodato and show up to advanced weight training every day and take what I learn from there and continue it at home to achieve my new year resolution and not lose track of it.” Some of the common goals around the world tend to be to improve physical well-being, eat healthy food, lose weight, exercise more, eat better, drink less alcohol, quit smoking, stop biting nails, get rid of old bad habits. According to a study about 38 percent of people say they’re going to exercise more and about 32 percent say they’re going to eat more healthily. Will you stay out of the 56 percent of people who fail to reach their goal or will you fall victim like the rest? Since many people fail to achieve their goal I encourage you to pick a goal, create a plan, and stick to it. Remember: “New Year, New Me.” |
