It has now been 2 months since our internships began and some seniors have faced many challenges already. We are learning how to deal with the difficult things that come with teaching. As Mrs. Delehanty likes to say there is no such thing as a bad student; some students just make bad decisions. It’s hard trying to figure out the right ways to handle the situation when their teacher is dealing with another issue. Senior Intern Deya Flores has had to deal with her students talking about their English teacher in Spanish because they don’t like her. She says that it is hard sometimes because they don’t know when to stop and also at times she wants to laugh but she knows she can’t. During dismissal is when my students start to act out of control because there is no learning happening in the last 20-30 minutes. When I pull students out because of their behavior, they laugh because they think of me as one of their friends instead of another adult in the room. On a positive note, it’s great to see how creative the first graders that I work with are when they are creating their own fairytales. They are always so eager to learn and improve on their writing skills. I think it’s safe to say that they might be smarter than me especially when using technology for learning. I have enjoyed watching one of my students go from being the shyest student in the class to one of the most outspoken students. We are excited to see what the next 2 months will bring as we are preparing to teach the students a small lesson we have created for them. Stay tuned!
