By Isaiah Braden My name is Isaiah Braden. I was born and raised in Rochester, NY. As a kid I was really into technology and photography. I gained interest in these things because of my grandpa. My grandpa and I would tend to go out to fields or wooded areas to take photos of nature or animals in our free time. Eventually he taught me a lot about computers and he also helped me build my first gaming pc. I spent a lot of time with him as a kid while my mom took care of my 2 other siblings. When I was around 14 I moved in with my mom and started attending East High School. At this time in my life it was hard going through that transition but I took this as an opportunity to expand my hobbies/interests. Throughout my 7th and 8th grade years in middle school, I struggled getting used to the high school environment compared to my elementary school #52. East High was a big difference to me: passing times, more classes, learning the layout of the building, and getting used to the deadlines. I mention this transition because this helped me mature and adapt to something I wasn't yet used to. Since then I have matured greatly and attempt to be the best I possibly can. Around age 16 I started taking Culinary classes at East, and I found a passion for cooking because I enjoy making clients/customers happy. I have been in food business jobs since I was about 15 years old. I started working at a seafood restaurant serving off of a buffet line, which was very fast paced. When I turned 16 a family friend helped me get a job at Creative Caterers. I have been working here for about a year. I gained so much knowledge in food preparation, dining room setup, and much more. I take advantage of this job to gain as much experience as possible to go into college with the most knowledge I possibly can. I began working in the food industry at a seafood restaurant and eventually I worked my way up to a better position at a catering company, which helped me reach connections and get experience in the business. I continue to meet new people every day to expand my communication and connections with others who also would like to provide advice about pursuing the Culinary industry. I plan on going to college for 1-2 years to receive a Certificate of Associates in Culinary Arts. As a young man, I have a lot of experience that I gained in such little time working in kitchens or dining rooms. My end goal is to thrive and succeed in the culinary business. I would like to attend a college for Culinary Arts where I can meet new chefs, students like me, and professors who can help me reach the world.

Covid-19 was probably the most significant event in my life that caused me to alter the way I think. Quarantine forced me to think about what's next in life. It made me realize that school wasn’t and can’t be the only source of knowledge I can obtain. At that point I started trying to educate myself on ways to obtain financial freedom by reading and doing extensive research on every way possible to achieve that goal of financial freedom. While doing this I noticed everyone transitioning to online shopping due to the pandemic. I took advantage of this small observation by trying to meet the demand of online products by consumers. At first I failed at drop shipping due to my negligence on various topics when it comes to managing an online store but I also realized that I didn’t have a passion for drop shipping. This was major in why I did not succeed in that business. This is when I started reselling sneakers. This was something I was and still am passionate about. This sneaker business completely changed the way I think on how to make money quite easily. My passion for sneakers and my desire to make money lead to a very lucrative summer for a 16-year-old for just using his phone and knowledge acquired from trial and error. This series of events led to a turning point in my life. I started thinking about my future, where will I be in 10 years? How will I achieve that? Along with a plethora of other questions. The quietness of quarantine, the social distancing, the virus itself, all of it contributed to helping me mature. I realized I am the only one who can write and change my story, so I started doing just that. I understand where I want to be in life, I also understand there will be unimaginable obstacles and hardships I will have to endure to get to my destination but by all means I am willing to take every single risk to achieve that. |
