Hello my name is Ryan Barnard-Amico. I am 17 years old and I am a senior at East High School. I was put in this class because it was needed to graduate but I am kind of excited to write my own stories for other peers and staff to read. I am the oldest in my family and I have a younger brother who also attends East. As a student I am usually on top of my work and have steady good grades but I have attended summer school in freshman and sophomore year but my grades are good now and I am on track to graduate. I'm doing what I need to have a successful and bright future which starts with graduating high school. I have many people around me to keep me motivated to keep going and inspire me to stay on track. My mom has been very supportive of me and I am very thankful for her every day. I hope to have a great career doing what I love, but I’m not sure what I want to do yet but I feel okay because I have many people at the school who can help me figure it out. The things I am very passionate about and my hobbies are drawing, and playing video games. Playing video games is a way for me to relax or something to do when I have nothing else to do but I am very eager to draw and it excites me. As a friend, I am very supportive of my friends and their choices and I am very loyal, but I don’t like to be social with many people. I like the small friend group I have. I hope that everything goes well for me and my plans that I make work out for me and I hope you enjoy reading my work this year.

Yuuurrr my name is Dayshaun Clark and I’m a 17 year old senior in East High School. I'm also an athlete and I’m planning on playing a lot of sports this year since it’s my last year of high school. My main spot is lacrosse but I also play football (number 30 if you are wondering) and I’ve ran track for the long jump and high jump. I also have highlights from the lacrosse 2021 season: just look up London Booker on YouTube and look for my name. My name is C’morra. I am a sophomore. I cheer for the East varsity team. I have been cheering since I was 7 years old but this is my first time cheering for the school and it is a fun experience. During my freshman year having school virtually it was really hard for me and it was a big change; it was something I was not expecting at all. Ever since middle school I always used to think when I entered high school it's going to be this whole new fun but challenging world, something like a movie. Of course now that I'm actually here, yes it's challenging but it's not really the movie I was hoping for. But if I was in one I would love to be the free spirited character who has a great energy and soul, that once you’re around me you feel all positive things and energetic. I say this because I love making others feel good and I just hate all negativity so for me trying to take some of that away with my presence will make me feel really good. You ask “Who are you?” and to be honest I really don't know yet. I'm still a 15 year old girl who's finding herself. So for me not knowing who I am, I wanted to at least ask my girlfriend to give me 3 and more adjectives to describe me. She came up with sympathetic and that makes so much sense because I care so much about the people who have always been there for me so I will make sure I always have their backs. Another word she came up with was honest. Honesty is such a big one for me because my grandad used to be an honest person so I promised myself to always speak the truth after he passed. I hate liars so for me to lie to others is very hypocritical. One last thing she said is I am a passionate person: once I love something so much I just can’t stop talking about it. For me my passion is for fashion; I just love it so much because you can express yourself in many different colors or layers and different styles and then add cute accessories. You’re just explaining how you feel and who you are as a person. I appreciate my girlfriend helping me out with adjectives to say because sometimes you have to see yourself from other people's point of view and you might be surprised about how they see you. Hey! I’m Greg, but you already knew that. I’m known to be a social butterfly, a leader and that kid ‘with a lot of potential who’s going places’ within the walls of East High School. I tend to know a little about everything and more than anybody on topics that interest me such as history, social relations and various cultures. These interests play a huge part in my choice of hobbies which include writing, researching and learning from/about others. I would like to go away for college, hopefully out of state to study something within the realm of medicine. In college, I also wish to study culture/language, therefore I will do a study abroad program. This program will allow me to visit other countries, make new connections and have new experiences that I may not have had attending school in the US the entire time. I’m excited to write in the school newspaper, as I would like to inform people on what’s true as well as the unpopular takes on situations. Kind, smart, driven, mature, independent, caring. These are all words people have described me as. I’m Ella French, a 5 year student at East, finally a senior. Throughout my life I have learned a lot about myself. I've learned that I am an overachiever, and I'm not satisfied with doing the bare minimum. I've learned how independent I am, how self-sufficient. I believe that I got these traits from the women in my life. My mother, a single parent, has gone above and beyond supporting and nurturing not only me, but my twin brother and older brother as well. Seeing how effortless she makes it look like waking up before the sun to teach, then take care of my brothers and me, and even work a second job at times motivates me and inspires me to be as efficient as her. My Nana has gone through a lot of loss in her life, especially these past few years. From losing 3 of her siblings, her two best friends and her husband within 5 years of each other, and seeing how she is still living, enjoying life, appreciating every day, focusing on the positives, inspires me to be as strong as her. My Nana and mother are both teachers. My mother is a high school culinary teacher in Fairport, my Nana was a daycare teacher for years. From helping my mom with her classroom in the summer and through the TLI program I have solidified my career choice of being an elementary school teacher. I know I want to teach, being able to make children happy makes me happy. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they get the answer right motivates me to go to college and get that degree. I am so looking forward to getting a degree in childhood education and making a difference. My name is Lex Cornell and I’ve never really been the “best” student. I’ve overcome most of the challenges I faced when transferring from my hometown, Ithaca NY, to Rochester. I didn’t think that it was going to matter what kind of school I went to, because I wasn't going to graduate from high school. Then I came to East. I came for the end of my sophomore year, right before COVID hit. I thrived here at East and managed to pass my sophomore and junior years with high grades. Through those years I’ve discovered amazing people and teachers, like Ms. Conroy, and I believe it’s mainly going to be because of the support of teachers that I’m going to make it through my senior year. As for what motivates me is being the first child in my family to go after what they are passionate about rather than taking any career that gives them a good paycheck. I’m already planning for my future even though I’m not completely sure what it is, but I hope to be able to get into the hospitality and culinary career. I’m also planning to go to college, MCC (Monroe Community College), for 2 years for hospitality and then CIA (Culinary Institute of America) to finish college. I’m hoping to bring some light into what it takes to get into college and to always go after your passions rather than doing something that won't bring you happiness. I'm looking forward to exploring these topics and discussing what I’ve learned through research and personal experiences this year and I hope you’ll join me. I am a leader. I am goofy. I can have a bad attitude at times. I love to laugh. I am Aryana and I’m a senior at East High School. I am the youngest out of 3, and the only girl. Growing up I didn't realize why my family was so protective of me. I thought it didn't matter that I was the only girl. I would always play around with my brothers and cousins; I didn’t realize I was the only girl and no one cared about it. I was always as tough as them. Now that I grew up and actually understand what’s going on in the world I know why everyone was so protective and had to watch over me all the time. When I get older I want to become a psychologist or a neuropsychologist because I want to know why people do the things they do and the science part of it. I want to know why serial killers kill people. I want to know what in their brain snapped to make them believe that killing people is the only way. I realized I wanted to be this because I was watching a show called Criminal Minds and I saw the characters reading people and understanding more about the killer by just what they saw, and I thought that I wanted to be able to do that someday. Hey! Ramir Wearen here with a brief introduction of myself. Now, Usually I don’t enjoy speaking too much about my life or myself because I hate when others know too much about me - it kind of takes the mystery away a little... Anyway, this year I’m really excited to see how far I can take this whole life thing-I am solely dedicated to unapologetically being myself and aiming for the stars.
*** Editor’s Note: Ramir had high hopes to finish this assignment (and provide a current photo) but life got in the way. Look forward to more from him in the next issue! My name is Nelson Martinez and I love to watch football on Sunday. My favorite team is Cowboys #dc4l. Another thing I like to do on the weekends is chill with my brothers. I also like to play the game with my friends. I love my family and I have 2 cats and I’m a fun guy to hang with. I go to East and I love this school and I’m 12th grader. My favorite food is pizza and I like to have fun. Last year I played varsity baseball last year. In the future, I want to be a marine biologist. |
