Get Paid to Write: Writing Contest Opportunities for East High Scholars

Do you love to write?  Could you use some extra cash?  There are three opportunities for students to have their voices heard while also refining their writing skills:

• NYS Conference of Mayors is sponsoring an “If I Were Mayor, I Would” writing contest for all 8th graders; student entry must be received by March 8, 2017
  • Three wining essays will be selected: first place will receive a prize of $150, second place $75 and third place $50.  Essays should be 350-500 words in length.
• Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Rochester Writing Contest for 10th – 12th graders on the topic: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress” (Douglass) due March 31st
  • First prize will receive $250, second prize $100, and third prize $50
• The Rochester Black Author Expo’s Extraordinary Youth Writing Contest is open to 7th – 12th graders with a deadline of May 1, 2017 (info below)
